If you are suffering from acne and fear about the ugly scars that you may get on your face, then you should look for a medication or a proactive treatment to control its manifestation. One such treatment is taking acne antibiotics which are helpful in providing immediate relief if taken under the supervision of a trained doctor.

Millions of people all over the world suffer from acne and acne medication helps many of them to get rid off this unwanted guest. When you visit a dermatologist or a physician, he may usually prescribe you acne pills like antibiotics for acne which have to be applied topically on the skin.

In case you have bacterial infection a dermatologist may prescribe you antibacterial medicines like clindamycin, sulfacetamide, azelaic acide and erythromycin.

Broad-spectrum acne antibiotics are used for substantial reduction of P.acnes bacteria which in turn reduces the inflammation. Female patients can even use oral contraceptives, under strict medical supervision, to correct the hormonal activity responsible for sebaceous glands which cause acne by producing more sebum.

Though the problem of acne is most common among many children and adults, people normally visit dermatologists only when the problem is severe. The doctor will give you treatment according to the severity of the problem. If you have mild acne, topical therapy is enough.

You require systemic treatment with oral retinoids and antibiotics in case you have moderate or severe acne. The doctors will begin the treatment by prescribing oral antibiotics such as Amoxycillin, Cefadroxil, Tetracycline, minocycline and doxycycline and some sulfa drugs for treating the problem in an effective and quick manner.

To the long list of antibiotics, recently Azithromycin has been added as a superior drug to doxycycline and erythromycin. Azithromycin also has anti-inflammatory properties and fights against acne causing bacteria.

Due to low gastric pH, Azithromycin do not cause any side effects like other antibiotics and hence is considered to be a safer medicine. Antibiotics attack the bacterium which develops acne in the skin and thus try to reduce or clear the acne. Very rarely Accutana is used in the final stages of acne development to reduce oil production.

Some times Benzoyl Peroxide is also used as a gel in the last stages but produces side effects like peeling of skin and local irritation. While using the drug you should avoid contact with mucous membranes and eyes. However, this drug should not be used when you are allergic to the drug or have ulcerated lesions on your face.

Erythromycin is also commonly used in the topical control and treatment of acne vulgaris in the form of gel, cream, ointment and solution. While using this drug you should be cautious of its side effects like itching, redness and local irritation.

This medicine should be used with utmost care and generally contact with eyes should be avoided. You should not use this medicine in case you are pregnant, lactating or have increased sensitivity to Erythromycin.

Tretinoin is another commonly used drug which is available in the form of a cream. However, it causes side effects of tightening, redness, high sensitivity to sunlight, and itching.

You should avoid exposing the treated skin to ultraviolet lamps and sunlight. However, the usage of this drug should not combine with therapy of conventional acne, cosmetic or medical products.

In case you have acute skin reactions like eczema or dermatitis, you have to avoid this drug. While looking for acne medications, you should choose the acne medicines made by companies that have reputation and has a proven track record on the field of acne cure.
