Acnes are formed when the oily secretions get trapped with the dead cells and hairs, thus creating the environment for bacteria to grow. The common treatments include dermabrasion, punch technique, chemical peels, skin resurfacing, and augmentation.

Acne, a skin blemish, afflicts both girls and boys of all ages. It starts appearing generally during puberty and continues till adulthood. They can appear anywhere on the body, but on face, it is most irritating. The worst thing about acne is that it leaves a scar behind that runs deeper into the skin.

Types of acnes

Generally, there are two types of acne- inflammatory and non- inflammatory. Non-inflammatory acnes are the ones that are very close to the skin like blackheads and whiteheads. There are some inflammatory types of acne that swells and are painful to touch. They sometimes feel hot. These are known as zits or pimples. They extends deep into the skin layers and causes scarring.

Different people have different type of scarring depending on their facial topology. Some of the common types of acne scarring are:

  • “Ice pick” scars
  • Shallow imperfections
  • Deep scars

There has been limited research on acne with limited treatments. Different treatments are there for different individuals and no single treatment is applicable to all. It is suggested to consult cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist to follow the best procedure.

Some common treatments for acne

Dermatologists have several treatments for the acne removal. Type of treatment for acne scars depend upon the type of scarring. Some of the common treatments are as follows

  • Dermabrasion:- In the starting, the skin is numbed or frozen. Then, the damaged skin is removed to allow new skin to grow. This term is entirely different and, therefore, shall not be confused with microdermabrasion.
  • Laser resurfacing:- In this technique, laser is used to remove the old damaged skin so that the new skin can grow beneath it. It has challenged the dermabrasion technique.
  • Punch technique:- In this technique, the scar is removed and the wound is left to be healed. In this technique, three methods are possible- Punch excision, Punch elevation and Punch replacement.
  • Chemical Peels:- In this procedure, the acid is used to remove the uppermost layer so as to let the new smoother layer of skin to grow.
  • Subcision:- in this procedure, the skin is detached from the deeper tissue, thus causing pooling of blood under the scar. It leads to blood clotting, which is removed off from the surface to level the skin.
  • Augmentation:- Some sort of material is injected under the scar so that it comes to the surface. Generally one’s own fat or collagen is used in this procedure.

Natural treatment

There are several natural methods to treat acne. One of the commonly used methods is vinegar. Apple cider vinegar can be used externally as well as taken orally. It is prepared from apple juice. It is found effective in healing scars and rejuvenating the skin.
